Why randomize?

Poorly designed preclinical studies not only contribute to experimental irreproducibility and wasted resources but also may result in erroneous conclusions regarding treatment effects, which can ultimately spur or deter clinical trials in humans with the consequent risk of harm.

Randomization is seen as one of the crucial steps to enhance scientific rigor, decrease bias, and increase the reliability and reproduction of studies with experimental animals. Among internal validity criteria, randomization is a commonly recognized bias-reducing instrument that needs to be considered when planning a study and reported when the results are disclosed in a scientific publication.

In this context, we developed this app to assist researchers in the randomization and organization of animals in experimental groups. We believe it facilitates the researcher's organization and avoids possible bias, increasing the credibility and reproducibility of results and decreasing the misuse of animals.

“Mouse Randomization” is not responsible for any errors or omissions, or for the results obtained from the use of this software. This website works as a complementary tool for decision-making in research based on statistical calculations.

The animals are numbered 1…n, shuffled with the Fisher–Yates algorithm and dealt into the groups in turn, so group sizes differ by at most one animal.
